Meet Atlanta Attorney Jeff Cleghorn
As a named partner with Kitchens New Cleghorn, LLC in Atlanta, Atlanta attorney Jeffery M. Cleghorn leads the law firm’s family law practice. Jeff helps clients with all types of contested and uncontested divorces, custody disputes, child support matters, domestic partnership disputes, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, as well as alimony and property division determinations.
Jeff takes a disciplined, but collaborative, approach to representing his clients, seeking resolutions that are equitable, appropriate, and in his clients’ best interests.
Jeff earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from North Georgia College in Dahlonega in 1984, where he was a distinguished military graduate. He went on to earn his Juris Doctor from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. in 1999.
After earning his undergraduate degree, Jeff Cleghorn was commissioned as an Officer in the United States Army’s Military Intelligence Corps. Over the course of the next 17 years, Jeff was stationed overseas in South Korea and Germany, and in the continental U.S. in Arizona and South Carolina.

Toward the end of his military career, Jeff served on the Joint Staff (Directorate for Intelligence) for the Defense Intelligence Agency at the Pentagon, in Washington, D.C. Jeff attained the rank of Major before leaving the Army in 1996.
Jeff earned several military awards, including the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Staff Commendation Medal and the Parachutists Badge.
After earning his law degree in 1999, Jeff put his military experience to use as he began his legal career as a Staff Attorney with the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network in Washington, D.C. In that role, he advised and represented military personnel in a range of legal matters related to the Defense Department’s internal administrative personnel policies, and to the Uniform Code of Military Justice. He has also acted as a liaison to senior Pentagon decision-makers, and engaged in Congressional lobbying on behalf of service members.

Recognized as a thought leader, Jeff’s written opinion pieces have also appeared in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Army Times, The Marine Corps Times, The Navy Times, and the Air Force Times.

Jeff is currently licensed to practice law in the state of Georgia. As an active member of the legal community, Jeff is a current member of the Atlanta Bar Association, the Georgia Bar Association, and the Collaborative Law Institute of Georgia. He also served as a past president of the Stonewall Bar Association of Georgia.
